A Good Talking To
So, forgive my lame attempt at bossing you around and just de-lurk already, would ya?
Also, I'm going to start inventing national "weeks". It would seem that anybody can invent a week and I have now deemed next week national, "Patronize your local hardware store" week in honor of us getting our keys for our new house and my grudging reliance on and long-standing resentment of Home Depot. (Shakes fist at sky, muttering about big-box stores and the same-i-fication of America. And not a WORD about the same-i-fication invention. Somebody has to make up new words -why not me?)

Maybe the week AFTER next can be "make up your own new word" week!
Not a lurker, but I'll comment anyway. Yours was the very first blog I ever found when I started blogging. I clicked the "random next blog" button, and your wit has kept me coming back ever since.
Hi, delurking, I read you with Google reader and I saw yesterdays post with the cute dog pix and almost commented then.. what a cute foster dog! ;)
Hardware stores are a sore subject where I live. We lost a 100+ year old hardware store (to a fire)just a couple of blocks from our house last summer. Worn, creaky wood floors, helpful, friendly knowledgeable staff. The whole town was in mourning. They're rebuilding, but it will never be the same.
We are so lucky to have 2 local hardware stores (both "True-Value") that have very loyal followings- they are also at opposite ends of town, so don't compete. When Home Depot was being built here there was a short period of time where the huge lit-up letters that spell out the name of the store and can be seen from the interstate were all burned out except for the letters "POT", which amused us to no end.
Hate the samification. If more than one person uses a made up word does that mean it's now a word?
Sorry I'm not a de-lurker. Good luck with that.
That face! It might help you to forget that he's peeing all over the place...
Can I invent a national week, too? I want National Worship Your Teachers Week to be made mandatory.
Hi! I'm a lurker. I can't remember how I found your blog now, but it's very entertaining, thanks :)
I can delurk. I work for a scholarship in a foreign country and found this blog through insidehighered while doing serious research. I enjoy stories about stupid or obnoxious students so I realize it's not just me they treat that way.
delurked
Hi, I'm a lurker--found a link to your blog on...some other blog I read. At any rate, I greatly enjoy your rants and stories about teaching (the inappropriate sister saga captivated me, I must confess).
Though, a week and a half away from facing my first room full of students who are wholly my responsibility, I'm now filled with utter terror and trying to make my syllabus as student-proof as possible, thanks to your experiences.
I'm a mostly-lurker here. I love reading your posts and am incredibly entertained when you write about your students. Keep up the good work!
Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster. I came across your site while looking for backgrounds onceuponatimeago...lurking ever since.
A number of my friends are teachers and I do love the stories they come around with about the ridiculous things people say. I like to live vicariously since no one in their right mind would let me mold young minds ;)
I'm not a lurker, I comment often here. Why am I tell you that, you already know. Duh.
Anyway. What am I commenting on? Oh yeah, chain stores. I, personally, am boycotting Wal-Mart.
Thanks for de-lurking over in my neck of the woods.
And I still think you'd fare quite well with the reviewers. Most likely better than I did, and I am supremely happy with my review.
I've posted before, just not in quite some time. Ahhhh, 'same-i-fication'. That would apply to the new gym we joined. Very nice, very neat, but I feel like a sheep being herded around.
I actually just delurked yesterday, but I may as well re-delurk today in honor of your delurking week post.
And for some reason my google account won't let me set up a profile, but in case you're interested who I am, my blog is at sangrialover.com
I'm a lurker, I think I found you through rateyourstudents or some academic snark site. Your new dog looks like a wooly bear caterpillar! Love the blog!
Thank god you made up a week for hardware stores because I just didn't know what I was going to do with myself for the next seven days? Also, I feel as though local hardware stores have really been neglected lately and that's just not right. It isn't!
De-lurking to say hello. I found you a week or so ago and I really enjoy your blog.
I hope you post pics and updates of your new house, that would be awesome!
I am another mostly-lurker. A librarian in Mississippi.
This post made me realize, just this minute, how the term "pissing match" originated. You teach me so much.
Happy De-Lurking Week!
de-lurking ... also found your blog a while ago through some other blog I read. I actually just graduated from college a couple years ago, and your stories remind me of all the idiots who used to annoy the hell out of me in class.
De-lurking!
I've started reading a few months back and have read most of your archive (it's interesting! Also I was unemployed).
Good luck with the dog situation!
I am not sure I am technically a lurker. Bu I am a huge fan
I don't know that I'm lurking but I am enjoying. As a teacher in South Korea I feel some of your pain. But at least my students have the excuse of English not being their first language.
